Athens 2004 - Chinedum Osuji - Athens 2004

So, I now have a page of my own, in a sense, on the web. It's still nascent, but in the coming weeks I'll try to keep it updated with some pictures, and some personal thoughts leading up to Athens - you know, shameless self-promotion. Just kidding, but the best part is that it's all mine, and while the crew is all like "man you should put something cool up on the web", what actually goes up is entirely under my control! Sweet!

Anyways, before touching on anything else at all, I just want to say a couple of things. Foremost is "Wow - ATHENS!!" It's finally settled in on me completely exactly what's going on here, but every now and again I still have to pinch myself. Somehow, for me, the Olympic dream and Taekwondo have always been very closely related...almost synonymous. I know there are plenty of other disciplines represented at the Games, but I think it's primarily because for so many Taekwondoists around the world, there was this huge moment of satisfaction and vindication when Taekwondo finally became an official medal sport in Sydney in 2000 - it was a collective Olympic dream. I am tremendously grateful for this unique opportunity to represent my country, Trinidad and Tobago, on the world stage.

Trinidad Flag

For where I am today, I can't say enough thanks to enough people, starting with my parents Paschal and Rose Osuji, of course, and my Taekwondo teachers Han Cho, Jun Chul Whang and Sung Chul Whang. Man...I'll tell you they had to put up with some stuff over the years!! Many thanks too, to M. Jin Young Jung and Maj. Lyle Alexander of the Trinidad and Tobago Taekwondo Association. And then there's the crew...the people I sweat and suffer with day-in and day-out. I can't begin to describe how unique is the bond of friendship that is forged over the time spent in the practice hall. Dan, Marc, Chris, Kris, Adrian, Ben, Sharif, Kyria, Stan, Jigga, Mel, Sean, Sammy, Fabio, Kathy, Tom, Fredson, Christina, Liza, club@CWB...Samuel! B-Unit/West SIIde all the way.

FUNDRAISING

Well, you know no Olympic story would be complete without the fundraising bit. CWB is coordinating efforts to raise funds for prepartions leading up to the Games, inluding a t-shirt sale! The jerseys were designed by club member Nancy Kneiss and just came in on April 24th and look very sharp!
